PACIFIC RIM WELLNESS has designed a stand-alone website using Google Map technology called Walkwell (you will see it as one of the button options when you first enter our Pacific Rim Wellness site).
The Global Walks site allows you, primarily, to log your steps on a daily basis (or less often if you record them on paper or use our downloadable H-215D pedometer).
When you log your steps our program will track your journey around Canada (the default trip). You can choose, however, to follow our instructions and create your own route anywhere in North America. You can create a route that is in your neighbourhood, city, province, state or something that takes advantage of much of the country.
Our tracking tool can be done as an individual or people can form a group and log the combined steps. This feature works well for companies who want to create a walking challenge for their employees or for school groups.
We have also created ‘Portals’ for companies that want them. A portal will only keep track of the steps logged by the employees of that particular company. Then, with back end administrative functionality and reporting, the person in charge of wellness can keep track of group challenges, progress and other appropriate data.
Here are a few other points about our step tracking tool. It
- is fully bilingual
- records your daily steps and cumulative steps
- records your total distance
- lists your current location and next destination
- records water intake (hydration)
- calculates calories spent
- calculates your carbon saving
- provides bar graphs for steps and hydration
- provides tools for calculating BMI and recommended calorie intake
- has a conversion table for changing other activities into equivalent steps
- has some useful downloads
To get started using Global Walks: - click on the Global Walks button at the bottom of this page
- click on the ‘Create New Account’ button
- you will need a Login and password
- make some choices in the ‘Create User Account’
and you are, as they say, “Off to the races!”
Happy trails.
